*A NEWLY DESIGNED PROGRAMME FOR 2010*
*NEW* SUMMER SCHOOL 1 – BEGINNERS: Monday 2nd August – Friday 6th August 2010
Summer School 1 - Beginners will involve a mixture of explanatory talks and hands-on sessions,
to familiarise participants with the basic concepts of Corpus Linguistics, and link theory to practice.
Participants will have the opportunity to work with more experienced teachers and researchers,
as well as to meet other students. A certificate of attendance will be awarded to all participants.
The tutors will introduce participants to a range of topics:
Introduction to Corpus Linguistics (history, theory, methodology)
Corpus Design and Creation (data sources, copyright, formats)
Types of Corpora (written/spoken, general/specialist, static/dynamic, synchronic/diachronic)
Corpus Software (especially WordSmith Tools)
Corpus Analysis (word frequency lists, concordances, collocation, keywords
Applications of Corpus Linguistics (Language Learning and Teaching, Lexicography, Translation, Forensic Linguistics)
*NEW* SUMMER SCHOOL 2 - ADVANCED: Monday 9th August – Friday 13th August 2010
Summer School 2 - Advanced is a chance for those who attended the Aston Corpus Summer School 2009 (or "Summer School 1 - Beginners" in the previous week),
and others who already have some experience in the field of Corpus Linguistics to extend their knowledge, broaden their range,
and gain hands-on experience of tools and techniques that they may not be familiar with.
All the sessions will be led by tutors who are leading experts in their specialist fields.
A certificate of attendance will be awarded to all participants.
